Career OptionsYou may not be thinking about working yet, but it's never too early to think about what you'll do when you grow up. And if you are looking for a career, the asphalt industry involves a wide variety of jobs you may have never thought of. Consider these possibilities:

Transportation engineers design and analyze highways, railways, airports, urban and suburban road networks, parking lots, and traffic control signal systems.

Civil engineers plan, design, construct and operate public facilities and are involved in city and/or regional planning, layout and construction of highways and pipelines.

Researchers develop new hot mix formulas for new applications and to keep improving on past formulas. They also study new processes that improve safety, environmental protection, and time and cost efficiencies.

Equipment operators run the highly advanced machines that break up the old pavement, place the hot mix, and compact it.

Approximately 300,000 people in the U.S. are employed by the asphalt industry.
